Principles
Silk UI was created with a clear vision. We want to make it easy for you to make beautiful and responsive interfaces. We believe in the following basic principles:
Excellent UI
  • Patterns just work (any pattern fits any theme, no CSS tweaking)
  • Every pattern must exist barebones in a vanilla format, ready to be fully customized in themes
  • Gorgeous design in all Themes for all patterns
Mobile First
  • Everything is fully responsive, or specially aimed at mobile
  • Make responsive understandable and easily configurable for developers
  • Ensure best possible performance, only sending to the client what is required
Boost Productivity
  • Enable pattern customization through web block configuration
  • Hide complexity and provide simple interfaces
  • Be consistent in naming and parameters
  • Avoid CSS but allow its use, when required
Platform Fit
  • Accurate preview in the web editor of Service Studio
  • Support the platform’s built-in functions (ex. scaffolding)
Best Practices
  • Aim for maximum runtime performance (ex. by having only one CSS resource per theme)
  • The javascript of a pattern should not interfere with other things on the pages
